Start with the work, not the destination
Write a short training brief before comparing schools in the Philippines. Identify the customer channel, the recurring misunderstanding and the action an agent must explain. A team answering written delivery questions needs different practice from a team troubleshooting by phone.
- For calls: practise clarifying the problem, checking understanding and summarising the next step.
- For tickets: practise a direct opening, ordered instructions and a clear closing.
- For escalations: practise explaining what is known, what is missing and who takes ownership.
- Separate English problems from gaps in product knowledge or internal policy. Teachers cannot repair an unclear refund policy.
Turn cases into a course brief
Ask a manager to prepare a small set of fictional or fully anonymised cases. Remove names, contact details, account numbers and confidential screenshots. Describe the expected outcome for each case, not a script every agent must memorise.
- Record each participant's current speaking and writing needs.
- Specify whether the teacher should correct accuracy, tone, listening or sequencing.
- Request individual feedback as well as any group activities.
- Check that mixed-level colleagues will not all receive the same tasks.
Business English can be a useful starting point. The course label alone does not confirm customer-support specialisation or permission to use company material.
Use a trial task to compare schools
For an illustrative exercise, give the teacher a fictional delayed-order complaint. Ask the learner to acknowledge the inconvenience, clarify the order status and explain a next update without inventing a delivery date.
- Can the school explain how the lesson would change for a beginner?
- Does feedback address whether the customer understood, rather than grammar alone?
- Can the learner repeat the task after correction?
- Will you receive a sample progress report and the assessment criteria?
Ask for a written proposal stating what is standard, what needs custom preparation and what cannot be provided. Do not assume a general conversation course includes a private corporate group.
Check logistics and the full quote
- Confirm lesson length, individual and group sessions, holidays and the actual daily timetable.
- Keep training hours separate from any work commitments. Enrolment and an SSP do not grant employment rights.
- Request separate tuition, accommodation, local charges and any custom-material fees.
- Clarify cancellation, replacement participants, recording consent and data retention.
- Compare the same dates and room arrangements. A headline package price is not a complete team budget.
No particular partner campus or specialist support course is promised here. Availability and customisation require a school-specific written reply.
Measure the learning after the course
Save a baseline fictional call or ticket and repeat a comparable task at the end. Use the same rubric: clarity, relevant questions, accurate next steps and appropriate tone. Tell participants whether recordings will be retained and who can access them.
Let the team manager check transfer to work later. Customer satisfaction and handling time also depend on staffing, systems and policy; a language course cannot guarantee those results. Agree a follow-up practice routine before the team travels home.
Frequently asked questions
Is this an outsourcing or recruitment service?
No. This guide concerns English training for an existing team. It does not offer staffing, call-centre operations or outsourced customer support.
Is general Business English enough?
It may cover useful foundations. Ask for a trial based on your channels and cases before assuming it meets support-specific needs.
Can we share real customer tickets?
Use fictional or fully anonymised material and your organisation's approval process. Do not send personal or confidential customer data to a school.
